Student Accommodations
Emily Bakers is a wonderful and intelligent little girl. She is has an IEP that was put in place her kindergarten year when she was identified with being on the Autism Spectrum. She is a bright student who is often a visual learner, sitting her closest to the board or to the teacher is when she produces the best work. Her gross motor skills as well as attention skills are that of a normal first grade student. She has a very high interests in the outdoor world, which is great when the weather is nice and we can host class outside on the yard. She does have a chart that is attached to her desk as well as the front of the room that has specific times and directions for her since keeping to a schedule is key to keeping Emily happy. We are currently working on her self-regulatory skills, communication skills, and her daily living skills as well.
Fredrick Jones is an outgoing, full of energy, youthful little boy. He is a gifted student with an IEP as well. However he is indeed one of our brightest students amongst the class. He does have a tendency to not keep eye contact when holding a conversation as well as he needs to be constantly moving. This can be tapping a pencil while the teacher is holding a lesson or even just moving his feet underneath his table. He as well sits at the front of the room therefor if there is help needed the teacher can be there for assistance. Fredrick loves lessons that deal with art and expression as he is a very creative boy. We are currently working on broadening his interest levels in topics that aren't of his intrest as well as working on his aggression towards others. There has never been a severe incident however Fredrick can often be taken in the wrong way or seem as if he is being arrogant to the other children due to his level of intelligence with his topics of interests.
Pierce Moktan is our english language learner from Lalitpur, Nepal. He just recently moved to New York and he and his family are excited to get started in the New York school district style of teaching and learning. Having been born and raised till the age of 4 in Lalitpur Pierce and his family speak Nepali and still follow their customs and traditions. This is amazing in our first grade classroom. We allow Pierce time once a week to teach the students something new about his heritage. We have learned many phrases and words to speak ourselves as well as customary traditions such as the way of eating dinner or worshipping daily. Pierce sits by Deandra who is a well communicated girl as well as Olivia too. Pierce leaves the classroom daily for speech therapy. He is coming along greatly with his writing skills and use of the English language.
Erica Jones, Corey Marsh, and Faith O'Conner are all apart of the pull out PT/Speech program.
Derrick, Deandra, and Michael are pulled out on a weekly basis for tier three math help.
David is selective mute. He has to gain a very strong trusting bond with one before he opens up. He is very intelligent though. Usually will answer the question when I or his best friend Allison lean into him and he will whisper it in their ears if he feels comfortable. Other than that he is on par with every standard for his age and grade.
